As of 11/8/2022: Gardening Tips Perennals is now Perennial Masters.

We are a gardening group that loves to share our knowledge and experience with others. We decided to start this website to share our tips, create some awesome guides, and give you a few tricks to help your perennial garden, in the hopes that someone will walk away from the experience with the knowledge to plant and grow just about anything!

We enjoy researching, spending time in nature, caring for plants, and putting everything together to bring a better understanding of perennial plants and how we can grow them, care for them, and keep them in our gardens for many years!

Growing up, spending time outdoors was a way to connect with nature, learn about plants, and spend quality time with family. Some of my favorite memories involve the sun pouring down its warm rays, leaves dancing in the breeze, and first blooms scattered throughout the garden.

I was always fascinated as a young girl tending to the plants in the yard and learning about the different varieties of flowers and vegetables. My great-grandmother loved her roses and shrubs, I loved spending time helping her to tend her lawn, trees, and flowers. My grandmother is the flower queen and always had the most lovely flower beds. When I was young she had an enormous flower bed that was filled with all varieties of annual and perennial flowers. I loved helping her plant, deadhead, water, and maintain it.

My Grandma Annie always has the prettiest flowers, and I love to visit and see what new things she has planted each year. My mama kept the flower tradition alive and well and instilled in me early on the importance of beauty and enjoying the small things in life. Of course, flowers played one of the biggest roles in that. My Grandma Annie also traveled to Jerusalem, where she was given the honor to plant a tree.

Our yard was always filled with flowers and vegetables. My dad loved having his vegetable garden and his secret strategy was to collect the animal poo from the alley behind the city zoo, and that garden always thrived!

Waking up on a warm spring morning and heading straight out to the garden has been a family tradition for generations. On numerous occasions, we have all piled into a car together and drove around the city to all of our favorite community gardens and neighborhoods for flower gazing and inspiration.

For years now I have been working on my own gardens with a focus on perennial trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetables. I have personally always had a preference for perennials. With a little love and gentle tending, they will continue to provide you with years of beauty. Due to their typically extended lifespan, I feel a real connection to each of them and love learning new things from them each season. I’m always learning something new but I also love teaching the things I have learned. This website is a way for me to connect with others, share information, and do what I do best, work with plants.

Gardening and spending time outdoors is my favorite thing to do. Not a day goes by that I don’t interact with plants, flowers, and nature. I started growing plants with my dad and grandpa. My grandpa had a vegetable garden and a flower garden and many of his plants were perennials. My Dad and I took over after my grandpa passed and we started our own garden. We were quick to discover that perennial plants were the most rewarding.

When I met Angela, it was love at first sight. She was into gardening, she had a ton of knowledge on perennial plants, and together we just clicked. We have been together for many years now and we both enjoy writing about our passions.
